For years, INVALSI Assessments have been the subject of huge debate on various aspects of the Italian education system. Among the topics discussed, a field of study and research is recognizing the assessments as valuable tools for both teachers and schools as a whole. This volume, which gathers several of the contributions presented during the 8th edition of the seminar “INVALSI Data: A Tool for Research and Teaching” (Rome, November 23rd–26th, 2023), highlights a range of real-world experiences. The large amount of data that INVALSI collects annually through its assessments - and then returns to schools and disseminates publicly - can be used to improve both the quality of teaching and student learning.
As the Statistical Service, we hope that reading this volume, with its overview of how INVALSI data can be used, not only confirms the value of these data within the school system but also it inspires new reflections.
