Description

The use of INVALSI data plays a central role in the evaluative research involving Italian schools within the evaluation process outlined by the Regulation on the National Evaluation System for Education and Training (Italian Presidential Decree of March 28, 2013, number 80). The first phase of the evaluation process - self-assessment - requires all Italian schools to produce the RAV (Rapporto di Autovalutazione – School Self-Assessment Report) based on a framework developed by INVALSI.
As the link between INVALSI data and the preparation of the RAV (Rapporto di Autovalutazione – School Self-Assessment Report), a dedicated session on this topic was held during the 7th edition of the seminar “INVALSI Data: A Tool for Research and Teaching” (Rome, October 27–30, 2022). This volume, which collects a selection of contributions presented at that event, aims to explore the value and impact of self-assessment processes, with particular attention to the use of standardized tests, the involvement of school communities, and training experiences that foster a widespread and shared culture of evaluation.
Taken together, the contributions offer a multifaceted and practical perspective on how evaluation—both internal and external—can serve as a driver for change and innovation, helping to build a school system that is more self-aware, transparent, and improvement-oriented.
