Description

The expression “learning environments” is widely used in the current educational debate: it appears in teaching innovation initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Education and Merit (Ministero dell’Istruzione e del Merito - MIM) and/or in projects led by international organizations such as the OECD. This didactic approach is applied when the aim is to promote learning that goes beyond mere mechanical repetition; in fact, the student is placed at the center of the teaching practice through active engagement. Learning environments are therefore an important pedagogical tool that offers students multiple opportunities to acquire new knowledge, develop skills, express creativity, make hypotheses, make discoveries, experiment, draw conclusions—in other words, to enhance their competences. Given the relevance of this topic in the field of education, a dedicated panel was organized during the 7th Seminar “INVALSI Data: A Tool for Research and Teaching” (Rome, October 27–30, 2022). This volume gathers seven papers that were presented on that occasion. As the Statistical Service, we hope that reading these contributions will help deepen the understanding of a theme that, in recent years, has become increasingly influential in the education system.
