The INVALSI Mathematics Tests. 7th Seminar “INVALSI Data: A Tool for Research and Teaching”
Edited by Patrizia Falzetti
Description
INVALSI has often been asked questions about its tests: How are they developed? What do they measure? The tests are the result of the work of over two hundred authors, selected among teachers and school leaders, who are supported on the methodological side by both national and international experts. After an initial selection, the test items are assembled into a provisional test booklet and pre-tested on a sample of several thousand students from the target school level.
This phase is essential to assess the accuracy, fairness, and measurement validity of each item and to identify any critical issues. In a second phase, the items are revised and tested again on another student sample to ensure that any problems have been resolved. The final product is therefore a precise and reliable tool that allows those analyzing the results of national assessments to identify key areas for improvement in learning processes.
This volume contains five studies on the Mathematics tests from both national and international assessments, presented during the 7th Seminar “INVALSI Data: A Tool for Research and Teaching” (Rome, 27–30 october, 2022).
As Statistical Department, we hope that the contributions included in this volume will demonstrate how not only the data released by INVALSI but also the testing instruments themselves can be effectively used to support teaching improvement pathways.
