This volume brings together five papers presented during the VII Seminar “INVALSI Data: A Tool for Research and Teaching” (Rome, 27–30 October 2022). The authors demonstrate how not only the data released by INVALSI, but also the tools themselves, can be effectively used to initiate processes of educational improvement.

The volume brings together seven research papers presented during the VI Seminar “INVALSI Data: A Tool for Research and Teaching” (Rome, 25–28 November 2021). These contributions offer examples of studies based on both national and international datasets released by INVALSI.
INVALSI assessments have been at the heart of the educational debate for years. The use of standardized assessments like those developed by INVALSI is part of a broader analysis of European education systems, which must be considered within the framework of educational policy at the European level.
The interruption of in-person classes that characterized the 19/20 school year, a decision put in place to prevent the spread of the Covid-19, had among its consequences the suspension of the national INVALSI assessments, regularly administered in the following school year. During the days of the VI Seminar "INVALSI data: a tool for research and teaching" (Rome, 25-28 November, 2021), it was therefore possible for researchers and teachers to return to use those results as a tool for investigation with respect to the effects of the pandemic crisis within the school world.
